Privacy Policy
GitHub Repo AI Summarizer ("we", "our", or "the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that provides AI-powered summaries of GitHub repositories. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and how it's used.
📋 Information We Collect
The Extension collects no personal data and does not use any tracking, analytics, or advertising services.
🔑 API Keys (User-Provided)
- If you choose to provide your own API key (for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, etc.), the key is stored locally in your browser's extension storage only (
chrome.storage.local)
- API keys are never transmitted to any server other than the respective AI provider's API endpoint you've selected
- We do not have access to your API keys — they never leave your browser except for direct API calls to your chosen provider
- You can delete your keys at any time via the extension's Settings page
🌐 GitHub Data
- The Extension reads publicly available repository information from GitHub pages you visit
- This data (repo name, description, file structure, README content) is sent to your chosen AI provider's API to generate summaries
- No GitHub data is stored on our servers — we operate no backend infrastructure
🔒 Data Storage & Security
- All data is processed locally in your browser
- User preferences are stored in
chrome.storage.local (browser-local)
- We do not collect, store, or transmit any usage statistics or user identifiers
- The Extension uses no cookies, trackers, or third-party analytics
🤖 Third-Party AI Providers
When you use the summarization feature, repository data is sent to the AI provider you select:
- MiniMax (default) — MiniMax Inc. API
- OpenAI — OpenAI LP API
- Anthropic — Anthropic PBC API
- Google Gemini — Google LLC API
- DeepSeek — DeepSeek AI API
Each provider has its own privacy policy governing how they handle API requests. By using a provider, you agree to their terms.
👥 Children's Privacy
This Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
